My best friend is always telling me:

"Alan, you should tell people about what you do first thing in the morning!"

Up until now my reply has always been:

"Do you really think they want to know?"

But now I am coming clean.

Every morning I spend 1 hour mindmapping.

You may already know what "mindmapping" is.

Of course you do.

But in the unlikely event that there is someone somewhere who doesn't here's what this sexy activity of the supercool is all about: It's a way to organize ideas and information and create what's called: "mindmaps".

It allows you to think visually. Plan projects. And generally brainstorm ideas.

Like many things in life, many people know about it and what it is, but they don't actually do it.

Well I do.

I mindmap.

I mindmap like crazy.

Here is a picture of a mindmap I have on my screen right now:

This is a mindmap of a book that is a couple hundred pages long, all in one screen ...

The idea is that you have 1 central idea then what is called "nodes" which are effectively like branches.

And if you are interested in being able to manage ideas better and access archived ideas faster then check out these applications

Here is a link to a Google Search:

http://www.google.com/search?q=mindmapping+software

Here is a free mindmap application called FreeMind:

http://freemind.sourceforge.net/

I don't really like FreeMind, while it does work it looks a bit crappy so instead I use MindManager, which you can check out at:

http://www.mindjet.com/

Also by the way here are three free tools to create mindmaps (the first one is the best in my opinion):

<a href=http://www.mindomo.com/">http://www.mindomo.com/

http://www.mindmeister.com/

http://bubbl.us/

I hope my friend was right and you might just maybe now, see the logic behind yours truly 1 hour morning ritual ...

Keep it real and keep winning.

I have two awesome tools for you to enable you to be on the pulse of what's happening in the world whenever you want ... The first is:

Awesome Tool #1: Digg Spy

What is Digg Spy?

You heard of Digg yes? The social bookmarking site ... Well DiggSpy allows you to see what is being "dugg" in real time. This is "awesome" because you can see in real time what content on the internet is most popular at any one moment in time.

This is far far far superior to newspapers, or crappy TV because this shows you what is happenning now! And what is hot right now.

To be in the know what is happening online check it out at:

http://labs.digg.com/bigspy/

Awesome Tool #2: Twistori

What is Twistori?

This 2nd tool allows you to get a real-time insight into what humans are saying right now.

It works with social networking site, Twitter.

And it's very similar to DiggSpy.

It's kind of sort of unexplainable ... The best way to explain it, is not to explain it. So just check it out at:

http://twistori.com/

Anyway ...

So, this thing I use is called "SearchStatus".

I am telling you about it because it kicks ass!

It sits in the bottom right of firefox, and it shows you the Alexa Ranking and PageRank of the website you are currently viewing.

These numbers tell you crucial things about the site you are viewing ...

And to otherwise access them you would need to go to the Alexa site or some other site to get the PageRank ... this addon shows you the numbers as you browse, which keeps you in the know.

It's great for comparing your site to other people's sites ... monitoring the traffic of other sites ... etc. etc. so on and so forth ...

Check it out at:

http://www.quirk.biz/searchstatus/

But really, you and me we are different.

We are winners.

We don't purposely infect ourselves with negativity so going to a site like <strike>http://www.fmylife.com/</strike> is not an option, despite its popularity with the masses ...

Well up until now there was no alternative option. But everything has changed.

Now here is a positive alternative called http://www.givesmehope.com/.:

Instead of people publishing negative stories from their life, they share only inspiring stories.

That's what happens ... You either lose ideas or you have to go on epic journeys from one computer to another just to find that single idea you had while you were meditating on the toilet singing boy band songs and clicking your fingers ...

If that's the case and like me you have more computers than you have teeth, then there is this super cool application called EverNote I have been using the past few months.

The fact that I have not blogged about it before and am only doing so now is totally criminal.

Anyway...

What actually is evernote?

I am not telling you ...

... Because this video does a better job of explaining it than I ever could do (I am slightly drunk right now):

So why use evernote?

It really is the dogs bollocks.

It is like a control centre for ideas that sync's with as many computers as you choose to clutter up your house with.

Any more reasons?

Yeah lods.

But I got to get back to my flaming sambuca.

Enjoy evernote it's sensational!

Check it out at:

http://evernote.com

Bye for now!

To better cooler great stuff,

Alan Who?

P.S. Actually I think I am going to have a tequila ... Decisions. Decisions. Decisions.

The reason why it's so worth writing a whole post for is this ...

Imagine you are watching a video on YouTube right now.

This video is life-changing.

It tells shows and proves to you that in 2012 the world will end.

It is 20 minutes long.

You have two options:

Option 1: Watch it at normal speed and spend 20 minutes of your life watching it.

Option 2: Use MySpeed to speed it up and take only 10 minutes to watch AND save 10 minutes of your entire life.

What option you gonna pick?

Of course. You're gonna' pick option 1!

NO! OF COURSE YOU'RE NOT! THAT WOULD BE STUPID!

You're gonna pick option 1.

You can get this marvel of a program from:

http://www.enounce.com/myspeed

With MySpeed installed, when you next watch flash video online it's slider will pop-up and you will be able to slide the playback speed of video all the way up to 3x normal speed. Here is a screenshot of that slider:

MySpeed Running At 3x speed

Enjoy.

P.S. The world will end in december 2010 - I saw it on YouTube.

P.S. The above link will get you a free trial, if you are not stingy after the 7 days and you choose to buy here is a coupon you can use to save $9:

Coupon code: "THEVDO"

This is not an affiliate link or any crap like that. I got this code by the cool guy who created it because I was one of the first to test MySpeed and like I said I am important so if you choose to grab it you can either use my code and save $9 or you can choose to be a fruitcake and waste $9 you could have otherwise spent on better things like buying my stuff.
